If there is nothing else then it is better than nothing.

The last time I DP'd any corners was almost 20 years ago.?ÿ It was on a 2,500-acre ranch in low-value hills (Dunnigan, CA).?ÿ The land had been in the same family for 100 years or more, and the owner told me that at one time it had all been in grain, with no interior fences.?ÿ When they switched from grain to grazing in the 1940s they put in fences to create rough quarter-section fields, but if they measured from any monumentation there's no record of it.?ÿ I had to go 2 miles north of one corner in order to find anything to measure from, a no-record iron pipe.?ÿ I validated that by going another mile north to another no-record pipe.

The fences didn't fit well, sometimes by a dozen feet or more, but then I didn't expect them to.?ÿ?ÿ

It was a case of "better than nothing."
