The best clients are the " value adders"

Today we have third parties requesting a boundary survey as extending a build to a boundary. Totally unexpected cost, so only interested in getting quickest and cheapest price/

Today people want to obtain Maximum pay and spend Minimum amount. Not helped by drastic reduction in prices of traditional goods now made in China.

Unless the client is personally recommended or the professional client who understand that there are greater savings in prompt, reliable professional service by saving time between "go" and the finishing line.... For example on interest savings for a large development.

Today's "one off" generation only "understand cost " Expertise / experience count for zip!

Time surveyors respected their profession and stood back, taking a deep breath and say " bugger this low ball school , I am sick of wallowing in the mire" and promote professional service rather than the lowest cost.

Which in my part of the world has dropped to low 1990's fees , as economic times are seeing unemployed putting up their "survival" shingle and charging hourly rates just above their old hourly wage in desperation to gain work. Albeit business costs have doubled!

Well the days of the small soloists are about run out, as today you need partners to ensure the required variety of expensive technology earns its keep and get those big value adding projects that do pay well.

I am into servicing people. It simply depends on the specific meaning of the word "service".

"millions are involved in voluntary service"

    "a regular bus service"

    "a range of local services"

verb

  1. 1.
perform routine maintenance or repair work on (a vehicle or machine).
    "have your car serviced regularly"

    Hi Richard

Matt Bevan here. I used to work for a Mr Hewett who you would know well. He used to show me recommended schedule of fees from the 80s. A loaf of bread has drastically risen since that time. $ for $, Idents seem to have gone down. I remember discussing with some other LS in our State before that I was quite happy to be thought of as a tradie even tho I am Licensed if it meant that I would get a tradie income. Surveyors seem so fixed on trying to prove to everyone that they are professionals but then beat each other to the ground to undercut. Im in the process of filing for divorce. I have a fantastic solicitor but no point trying to haggle with her over the price. It is what it is. They know their worth. Now that is a profession.

Matt that 80's bread sue has gone stale! Sorry to hear of your income diversion. I still would encourage you to go with out rather than extend your liability as a result of a no profit iden survey.
