I am running a Topcon GR-5 gps and my data collector stopped working. I am wondering what a good new data collector would be and what kind of software to put on it. Do I need to get a Topcon data collector run a Topcon program in order to use my gps or can I buy from a different manufacturer? I was using a Topcon FC-250 with pocket 3D, and it seemed to work pretty well for me. All I need to do is construction staking for the most part. Thanks for any help.

GPS Head

That's superior to being level headed Jim!

I have been thinking though whether a head mounted GPS rover would be workable, using the distance or time interval point collection setting on the data collector. If you're walking at a steady pace the head doesn't rise and fall that much, so just walk and collect.

I'm using a Topcon Hiper with a new Nomad (from Spectra Precision/Trimble) without any issues. I'm sure any data collector will work.
