My ancient Topcon GTS-3 are coming out of retirement to do a little project. I have an HP-48gx data collector with TDS surveying software. I dusted it of and I think I may be able to make it work BUT I seem to I misplaced the dongle that allows the Survey Link Software to activate so that I can D/L the data. I'm assuming that the only option I have is to find a used, relatively expensive Data collector that will work with my TS and the software that makes the instrument work and D/L the data...more specifically, to import the data into AutoCad. Other than look harder for the dongle, can anyone suggest a make/model data collector the would work with my instrument and suggest the appropriate software?
If I remember correctly the HP48 uses the Kermit file transfer protocol developed by Columbia University. You can still download their program at https://kermitproject.org/ckw10beta.html
I do believe your computer will need a serial port to connect to the HP48
Please see my post on The Museum of HP Calculators forums.
Appreciate the suggestions but I'm guessing that they are above my capabilities. I think I need to find a data collector that is compatible with my Topcon GTS-3.
Thanks!
I think that a Ranger dc running Survey Pro or SurvCE should work with that old Topcon. Those are the common softwares that support multiple brands. You will have to decide whether this juice is worth the squeeze. Maybe renting a setup, gun plus collector, would be a better deal.
Also, if you are just running control and boundary, paper and pencil might be a valid alternative.
