I got a call from a surveyor who wants me to share information about my recorded map. It seemed like a harmless request at the time so I shared some information. Now the same surveyor is calling me again hoping that I will share more information. I investigated the situation and it is something like this.?ÿ

An evil and crazy neighbor makes belligerent verbal and physical attacks on the previous and current owner of the land I surveyed. He blocked access to the property with huge boulders on more than one occasion that had to be removed with an excavator. He pulled out the survey markers that I set on the property.

This same crazy person has another person, claiming to be an attorney, write intimidating letters, make telephone calls and manipulating town officials about the property. I happened to find out that the "attorney" is not licensed to practice law in my sate. After that I stopped hearing about this impostor.

Now I find out the surveyor is a family friend of the crazy, evil neighbor. In fact, his family owns land abutting the crazy person. So, I am done with this. I have no idea what their problem is and why they seem to think their criminal acts committed with impunity will get them any sympathy or information from me. I would normally share information with another surveyor, but, this is ridiculous.

I had thought of returning the call and asking for information about these criminal acts, but, on second thought I will simply ignore these idiots.

It may be difficult to do...but my suggestion would be to 'stay out of it'?ÿif at all possible.

It appears as though you completed your survey appropriately and in good faith.?ÿ And sharing info with other surveyors is a common professional courtesy.?ÿ What others do with your info is out of your control.?ÿ It sounds like an unfortunate situation.?ÿ Should you engage the predicament now it could only cast a shadow on your original work.?ÿ Which, btw, you may need to defend in the future.

Our buddy Mark said it wisely...something like "Don't wrestle with a pig in the mud.?ÿ You will only get muddy and the pig will like it."?ÿ ?ÿ

I think most Surveyors have at least a few crazy friends, but I think most Surveyors would still follow all State regulations and rules when surveying a friends tract. However if the Surveyors owns the land next to the tract he should have good ethics and hire a Surveyor to survey the tract. Now I know some of here feel they can Survey their own land, but I wont survey land I own, or buying.?ÿ

I agree stay out of it, dont ask questions, if they call you say I am only giving out information of the Survey to the person who paid me for the Survey.?ÿ

Some people are nuts.?ÿ Some of those nuts own real estate for some reason, perhaps inheritance.?ÿ They were nuts before you did your work.?ÿ They will be still be nuts after any "official" decision is made.

I walked off a job a few months back thanks to a neighbor who was nuts.?ÿ Life is too short to put up with the stress they can induce.?ÿ Move on to a different project.
