About 145 years ago three tiny little towns came into being almost on top of each other with each hoping to be named the county seat.?ÿ This failed miserably on the first attempt.?ÿ When a second chance arose they agreed to form a fourth tiny town in the small area separating them and then get the citizens of all four areas to vote to name that as the county seat.?ÿ It was a great idea but it didn't work because the citizens still voted for whichever tiny town they lived in.?ÿ Still, the area grew and the four tiny towns finally merged under a new name that had nothing to do with the first four names.
Counting those four tiny towns, there are now 168 additions/subdivisions forming the city today.?ÿ But, the land area of the city is listed as only 7.15 square miles with a population of 9100 people.?ÿ That averages out to 54 people and another 1/6 person per addition/subdivision with an average size of 27-1/4 acres.?ÿ Thus, a population density of 2 people per acre.
Could that be a record for the most subdivisions/additions for such a small city?
As you can imagine, surveying there is an art.?ÿ Most of the plats are well over 100 years old.?ÿ Many were created long before the thought of utility systems of any kind, not to mention modern vehicles.?ÿ Lots come in every size you can imagine, in blocks of equal uniqueness, with street and alley widths of great variation.?ÿ A few plats have streets with kinks that are required to match the existing street in an adjoining plat because the owner/developer didn't happen to like the lot/block sizes of that adjoiner.?ÿ There are quite a number of intersections that require a small jog to continue in a somewhat straight line. One plat is so narrow that it is two lots wide (115' total) by three blocks deep.?ÿ Another plat consists of only five or six lots that are about 50' by 140'.?ÿ To add to the fun, there are several spots inside the city limits that are metes and bounds tracts (generally the size of one typical residential lot) that predate the surrounding platted subdivisions.

I couldn't help myself.?ÿ Had to mention the idea of 1/6 person.?ÿ Any fans of The Andy Griffith Show will recall Andy explaining ratios to Opie.?ÿ Opie tries to wrap his mind around "a half a boy".
Several years ago we were asked to map a small City in North Georgia.?ÿ The mapping was no problem, good SPC control and aerial mapping, ?ÿbut they wanted to put the city limits on the map with all the additions.?ÿ The charter for the City predated the War Between the States and had a 1 mile radius from the courthouse as the original definition.?ÿ The 1840 (+/-) courthouse is long gone with no evidence.?ÿ The land for the courthouse was, supposedly, donated by a wealthy property owner.?ÿ No deed could be found in the County Records (probably burned by General Sherman).?ÿ The State Archives were my next attempt.?ÿ I found deeds from him, including those transferring slaves, but no mention of the land for the courthouse.?ÿ After consultation with the County and City attorneys we decided to use the center of the existing courthouse (+/- 1900) as the center of the circle.?ÿ THEN I got to figure out the location of the additions.?ÿ I do enjoy jigsaw puzzles though.

I couldn't help myself .. have to hijack with the old math problem.
If a boy and a half can eat a pie and a half tn a minute and a half, how long does it 3 boys to eat 3 pies?
Meet Horatio
Cow,

Sounds to some extent like Oklahoma City on a smaller scale...
1/6th of a day. ?????ÿ
You didn't pay attention in class and deserved what the nuns did to you. 👿 ?ÿ
Yup. But you are the teacher, so I'd expect you to get it.
I come up with a minute as well Dave.
boy and a half = 3 half boys
pie and a half = 3 half pies
minute and a half = 3 half minutes
1/2 boy eats 1/2 pie in 1/2 minute
3 pies between 3 boys = 1 pie per boy at 1/2 minute per half pie = 1 minute
Unless we're missing the information that boy number three had previously conveyed his pie rights in an unrecorded document to the other boys so only two of the boys will be eating the three pies.
As long as it clarifies, the art doesn't have to be great. Makes sense now.
Hey, I'm still trying to figure out how Johnny can eat four bananas and six apples Mary gave him and not be sick. ???
