I have a bunch of boxes of actual PK nails....

No, thanks. When I took my current job I cleared out a large supply of PKs from the truck and recycled them.

I didn't think that was possible to not work in the rain in your neck of the woods

It's not, really. We work in the rain.

@norman-oklahoma so true On the pk and mag nails. When i worked out west control primary was at minimum rebar and brass or aluminum cap stamped. 60d nails mag or pks were temp control as well.  We use to drive those rods that connected together with brass or aluminum cals if i remember correctly they screwed together and we drove the. To refusal and belled out and poured concrete on larger long lasting jobs.  I am working through a supply order now.  Geezers has cost gone up even for flagging.  I sent my first request and got approved for half. Now trying to get the other half approved.  Shopping around.

So if Mag nails are used for control at least use those that are a couple inches long, minimum.

Facts.

IF you want a mag to stay...no tag and countersink the thing in asphalt.

Old surveyor trick that works if the asphalt still has some flexibility - before setting the nail hit the asphalt a heavy hammer blow, making a little dent in it. Then you can leave your nail a little proud in that depression, even if you use a washer, and it won't get scraped up by the plow.

If the asphalt doesn't have any flexibility left in it, it doesn't matter what you do. That baby's a goner.
