We'd run into something similar on a commercial property. Brass plaque laid in the sidewalk inscribed with Private Property.?ÿ They weren't(edit) on the property line though. ?????ÿ
?ÿ
*weren't
I think your perspective is slightly skewed....
???? ?????ÿ
Where in Chicago did you find this?
@drew-r I dunno, it was from a friend in vaca. I will ask??
@james-fleming fool me once...
I was just chatting with folk here at the office about family back in Joliet. My sister used to live in Elwood IL of all places.?ÿ
Jake and Elwood would never live on the northside, let alone Wrigleyville. I used to live down by the lower east side by a lot of the old landmarks from this film. I've actually surveyed right up by Father J Brown's church.?ÿ
What a classic
@brad-ott it takes me back. I got my start surveying in Chicago, lots of cool stories from those streets and even below them. I was intimately familiar with the tunnel system under the financial district. Here is a lesser-seen view of Michigan & Randolph:
@drew-r?ÿ
Brad,
It was at the base of the Chase Tower! Its amazing how difficult it was to figure that out. Lol Lots of buildings!
@brad-ott Yup, Madison and Dearborn. You can see the plaque from streetview!
I honestly couldn't stand working in the Loop. People with that much money are not my cup of tea. I sure did a lot of it though, I bet I could still find a lot of the control I set throughout there.?ÿ
I dug working on the southside; that was my speed, my area, my kind of people. That's where you find the best bbq too. Hmu if you find yourself in Chatham, I know a good spot ????ÿ
@drew-r?ÿ
How many Wackers are there in Chicago??ÿ I swear there are all points of the compass plus upper and lower.?ÿ Spent many days in December hanging out at the old Conrad Hilton or Palmer House hotels about 45 years ago.
That's cheezboogie cheezboogie cheezboogie, Pipsee no Koak
Don't forget Lower Lower Wacker.?ÿ Yup, it does exist.
"Other than the drag racers, most Chicagoans only visit the lowest Wacker catacomb if their car has been towed to the city??s?ÿnotoriously difficult to access?ÿimpound lot, also located on the Lower Lower Drive. Readers might also recognize the area from the extended car chase in?ÿBlues Brothers, when Jake and Elwood cause a huge pile-up of cars on their way to City Hall."
?ÿ
"
Wacker Drive?ÿis a major?ÿmultilevel street?ÿin?ÿChicago,?ÿIllinois, running along the south side of the main branch and the east side of the south branch of the?ÿChicago River?ÿin the?ÿLoop.[2]?ÿThe vast majority of the street is?ÿdouble-decked; the upper level intended for local traffic, and the lower level for through-traffic and trucks servicing buildings on the road (and originally a?ÿdock). It is sometimes cited as a precursor to the modern?ÿfreeway, though when it was built the idea was that?ÿpleasure vehicles?ÿwould use the upper level. It is the only street in the city that is prefixed with all four cardinal directions, albeit on different parts of its route.[a]?ÿThe drive is named for early 20th century, Chicago businessman and city planner?ÿCharles H. Wacker.
The upper level is normally known as?ÿUpper Wacker Drive?ÿand the lower level is?ÿLower Wacker Drive. A short part has a third level, sometimes called?ÿLower Lower Wacker Drive."
@holy-cow I surveyed lower-lower Wacker! No lie, I remember it well and there are very few places where sunlight comes through. It's cool, a lot of service entrances come out down there and the restaurant staff for fancy places like Michael Jordan's steakhouse hang out down there and take their smoke breaks.
