Our DC is over 7 years old, she's had a good run but the mini USB port (charging and data transfer) has been on the way out for a few months, and reports just in from the field say that it's now loose (i.e. stuffed) and can't take a charge cable.
Anyone know if it's feasible for a layperson to replace the port, or at least if there's a way to jumper-cable something to charge the battery (we can do BT file transfer). The battery is 3.7V Li-ion, with 4.2V charging. The battery itself is tired, so we boost it during the day with a USB power pack, but now that the port is stuffed, we can't do that.
surprised no reply.?ÿ One of the things I did was tunnel into a 'data collector' and find the manufacturer.?ÿ I found I could buy almost 100 of them (minus the dc software) for the price I paid for one.?ÿ But then we both have to worry about tariffs w goods from China, the same tariffs putting a hurting on Australia's wine trade.
for the certification in your other post, I have many I don't use and can send you that came with Microsoft Word.
Hope all is going well

Regarding wine, I watched a doco on Netflix last night, narrated by Russell Crowe, on how since 2010 China bought out most of France's (Bordeaux) fine wines - prior to that it was USA - and is now growing their own grapes in the barren lands near Mongolia.
Maybe you can find a second one that's broken but can be used to externally charge your battery? Plus buy a second battery (if needed).?ÿ
@350rocketmike
Yes a second battery plus an external charger seems like the way to go.
I use a Panasonic fz-m1 tablet as my data collector and it came with the original 2 batteries (both 4 years old when we purchased it used) and they both held up the entire year I used them until we got a couple minus 20 days and one died within a couple hours and didn't recover after being warmed up in the truck.?ÿ
I finally got a new extended (2.2x the capacity and size) OEM Panasonic battery for $220 and now it can go 2 days. Shortly after I found us another Panasonic fz-m1 for $340 on eBay (supposedly tested and working) turned out it had no SSD or OS but at that price (we paid $750 for the other one a year ago) it would have been worth it as an external charger.?ÿ
On some days I would have to take the tablet home and charge the second battery back up and then the completely dead one overnight. I could probably have gotten away without the replacement battery if we already got the cheap second tablet but it only cost $55 for a replacement SSD so I'm fixing it and installing windows and we'll have a second working one. Of course we'll still have to get another new battery for it, but I saved the boss thousands of dollars on new tablets/data collectors now.?ÿ
