Do Cemeteries pay property taxes in your State? If not, convince the County there are no back taxes owed. They need to just give it back to the Cemetery Assn where it belongs.
Cemeteries do not pay taxes.?ÿ But, the County has no authority to give the property to them.?ÿ It needs to come from the deed holder or via the tax sale method.
Different States handle the tax sale thing quite differently.
I assisted the County in adding a former church to the tax roles several years back.?ÿ The property had been purchased by a private group who set up a non-profit corporation.?ÿ Eventually the non-profit corporation ceased to exist and the last official officer had died, leaving no one to have the legal right to do anything with the tract.?ÿ The County put it on the tax rolls and no one protested.?ÿ The time is nearing when it will finally make it to the tax sale.
