Question for anyone:

Does a Carlson Surveyor + data collector with Surv CE 3.01 connect to a Leica 1200 Receiver?

It is listed in the equipment menu under "Rover", so I would assume so but just want to check with anyone (Trimble also had equipment listed and I couldn't get it to connect).

I know the Viva receiver isn't listed but has anyone had any luck connecting with that?

I am a firm believer in matching color data collectors with total station or receiver (yellow to yellow, or green to green), but sometimes you have to work with what you have.

Thank you,
Mike

Mike,

Carlson should work with the GPS1200 unit (GX1230) but you would need to hav the GPS option licensed in Carlson and on the Leica side you would need to have the Extended OWI Option license. You can check the extended OWI Option on the GX1230 by:

1. Select the USER key (bottom center of keyboard)
2. Next choose F3 (STAT)
3. Next choose 3 System Information

You will be viewing the Instrument page of the System Information menu.... scroll down and look at the field - Extd OWI: - if this says YES then the Leica side is ready for using Carlson.

On the Viva units... it is my understanding that you can only run Carlson on the Leica CS controller to communicate with the Viva instruments and receivers.

Mike,

We connect to a Leica 1200 GPS with Carlson but there is one catch. Carlson can receive the data from the Leica but it cannot control the GFU15 Leica GSM modem. I don't know if you use the Leica Smartnet but if you do you have to connect to your account the first time using the Leica Paddle to get your user name and password to login. After that you can use Carlson to connect until Leica resets the network or something goes wrong and then you will need to reset your 1200 with the paddle (this happens about every two months). If you are using an Airlink modem this is not an issue. I'm not sure about using it as a base with a UHF radio since we don't use it that way.

That's great info guys! I really appreciate it.

What we found after testing today:

We had the Leica Viva connecting with Surv CE on the Leica CS 15 and that worked great. It looks like the Leica 1200 is out of the question since they stopped manufacturing them. "Surveythemark" was correct when stating that only the Leica CS can run the Viva receiver. We also found out the the Leica CS 15 can run the Sokkia GRX1 receiver without a hiccup. To answer my question- the Carlson Surveyor + cannot run the Leica Viva receiver.

Hopefully this will help someone in the future.

Thanks again,
Mike

Mike,

Carlson will work with a GX1230 receiver. You just need a cable and the licenses I described. I have an old guide that list the steps. I will email it to you when I find it.

Mark,

If/when the Carlson SurvCE software is installed on any of the Leica data controllers,
The Leica RTK Rover ALWAYS uses the Leica RTK Engine, , the RTK solution, RTK Float or RTK Fixed solution is simply "Passed" over to the Carlson SurvCE SW on the Leica Controller.
