Okay... SurvCE 2.6

1) set up on #1. Data collector "circle" is set to zero, data collector sends zero takes shot and stores #2... I take the necessary shots and move to #2

2) set up on #2, Data collector "circle" is set to zero, data collector sends zero, I take a distance check shot (0.01) and everything seems fine. The map on the screen shows me on #2 and the BS as #1... I take a shot and it is obviously blown on the map... stake out #1 and it says turn an angle right of 27 degrees WTF?!?!? go to number #1 and take shot, no good.

3)I go back to the backsight screen and I am still on #2 backing #1 everything looks right (but it aint)so I change the data collector "circle" from set to zero, to set to: 0.0, and it works.

I am unfamiliar with SurvCE so my question IS: Do I need to have it on set to: 0.0, every time after the first set up? can I just leave it on 0.0 all the time like in TDS if I am always backing ZERO??? HELP?!?!? I cannot have this thing blowing setups!

I don't, use a field book and turn a minimum of two direct and reverse sets. Set the gun at about 0°00'20" for the first BS so I don't end up with a 359°59'--" to deal with. Second set will start with 90° unless I am turning 3 sets where the BS will Be 60° and 45° if turning 4 sets, told it is not necessary, OK, but I do it anyway because it makes me feel better and does no harm.

Carlson support is very good.
Sounds to me like you have a setting wrong. Like wrong instrument, set to azimuth instead of circle.
Im sure you will feel kinda dumb when you get it figured out, I always do:-/

Is the collector setting your gun to zero?

It's been forever since I set mine up, but IIRC, it's set up to zero the gun at each backsite. Works well for us.

I do, but I have had some issues with what you describe as well. I like Carlson, I love their human support, but they tend to make releases and have features in their products that are unexplained by current written documentation.

I do the updates, and all of a sudden there is a new button, but what does it do? I don't usually have time to figure it out in the field!

The collector sends the zero to the gun... But the datacollector does NOT account for the zero it sent to the gun and calulates lat&departure off of the angle on the gun prior to sending zero. It is rediculous that they would release software with this issue... Rediculous!

It makes a 3-4 thousand dollar collector worthless.

I sent an inquiry on your behalf into the Carlson Technical Support team and was told more specific information regarding your setup is needed. Specifically, Carlson Technical Support asked that an email be sent to [email protected] with information that provides the make and model of the instrument, which data collector is being used and a phone number where you can be reached during the day (alternatively, contact Carlson Tech Support at 606-564-5028.
