I heard that C3d 2014 was the first version of acad that was backward compat.. to a few previous version.

Maybe I misunderstood or don't now how to save back but I just opened a file with C3D 2014 saved it with a new name and then exported to a 2010 format. When I opened that file with C3D 2010 it acted just like it always did with the points being proxy objects.

Is it possible to save back with 2014 C3D and see points as C3D points?

I was told the C3d 2014 is backwards compatible with C3d 2013. No word on whether that was going to be policy going forward or not.

Yes it is now the policy. The Civil3d objects in 13, 14 and 15 are supposed to be compatible with each other - some people are finding a few issues with that but it mostly seems to be working. When Autodesk changes the dwg file format in 2016 then the Civil3d objects will supposedly change also.

It would be a good thing for them to provide some sort of conversion utility à la Trueview.
