You may recall the Surveyors Historical Society expedition to the bayous of Louisiana to rescue the Point Couba Bilby tower back in April, 2012.

By this time tomorrow, you will be able to visit the tower in its much more accessible new home in Jasper Bilby's hometown, Osgood, Indiana.

I don't suppose younger surveyors will be allowed to climb the tower to have a unique and thrilling experience available nowhere else evermore.

I had this experience, on a 100 ft tower in the early 70's and my heart was pounding.

Thanks for the picture ...now I do not need to go to Indiana to see it.
Thank you very, very much.

So, is there an admission price to see it? Can I climb it? Where's the zip line terminating in the pond/lake?

Just for curiosity sake, how close are the power lines to the tower?

Is it set up over a triangulation station disk? I don't find one in the GC list for that lat-lon, but it wouldn't have to be one actually in the data base.

If there isn't a disk there, somebody should be able to come up with an old tri-station disk. If it is a used one, they could probably fudge the stamping. I don't think there is a C&GS station called BILBY in Indiana, although there are a couple in other states.

The city plans to pour a concrete pad around the base of the tower. NGS has agreed to come in afterwards and set a commemorative disk.

Besides, the USC&GS tower crew veterans who were on hand to put the tower up told me the tower always goes up first, then the disk is set.

Plans are in the works for a formal dedication next June.

Great! I shouldn't have doubted that SHS would do a topnotch job.

No.

> Can I climb it?

That would be between you and local law enforcement. The official position would be NO.

> Where's the zip line terminating in the pond/lake?

There isn't one but you're not the first person to suggest that there should be.

> Just for curiosity sake, how close are the power lines to the tower?

50 feet. Here are a couple of photos that show the pole line in relation to the tower.
