Thanks for the reminder of those rare occasions. In 40 years the 3 or so nerved rattlesnake encounters & and painful jumpin chollas moments are respected.

I did spend a little time working in Arizona once upon a time. It was late May to early August 1985. In spite of the heat, I quite enjoyed being there. I can imagine how the cooler months would be quite nice. Nevertheless, the area I was in, which was remote (east of Congress), was covered in cholla. Rattlesnake encounters were near daily.
California is the best state to survey in, of course, it's the only State I have a license in.
The northeast, mid September through Christmas. Then mid March till black flies. I'd like to take the rest of the year off.
