I just bought a used Trimble 5800 receiver. I also bought a Samsung Rugby 2 with the unlimited data plan ($10 per month)& also tethering ($45 per month).

My friend at the local Trimble dealership has told me that I am still missing some setting on the AT&T side.

My 'friends' in the customer service & technical support side of things at AT&T tell me I have everything set up correctly. I wonder because it is a confusing thing for them to hear me ask for this:

"I need to have my Windows mobile device (no it is not a laptop, no it is not a pda, it is a data collector) connect via bluetooth (which it does correctly) to my Rugby 2 flip phone, THEN I need the phone to do a dial-up to the internet like an old-fashioned modem (this is where I lose them)."

So, now I turn to YOU, my FRIENDS at BEERLEG.COM...

Please help, Thanks, Brad

My dear friend Brad,

I suppose you've started with your bluetooth connections for cell phone and receiver?

what software are you running on your dc,
using Survey Controller or Trimble Access we use these settings for the rover radio.

Type = cellular modem
Route through controller = Yes
Controller Port = bluetooth

Then you have to setup a GNSS contact

Let me now if you need more info I'll take our TSC2 with me to look it up,

chr.

My brother Christ, I just found out that our texting plan was turned off all week for all five phones in our plan since we added the new one on Monday at the AT&T store. I will bet our clerk accidentally turned it off somehow and not one of the six customer service or technical support folks noticed during all my inquiries.

Holding my breath until Monday.

1. I am assuming that your TSCE has a bluetooth module.
2. I understand that you are not trying to tether to a laptop but this is a great troubleshooting option. If you take your laptop to the at@t store and they can get on the internet via bluetooth phone then you will be able to use it on an RTN. At&t should be able to assist you in this.
3. Upgrade survey controller to the highest version available for the TSCE. This should allow an NTRIP connection
4. Before you connect to the RTN make your internet connection in Windows. Then check to see that you can open a webpage.
5. After all of this you should be able to use your phone for the RTN.

Note: I have never done this with a controller prior to the TSC2. I know times are tough but if you can manage it I would recommend upgrading some hardware. This will allow you to use Trimble Access and internal Bluetooth. The TSC3 even has a built in modem. Another option w/upgraded hardware is a mifi card or a phone that acts as a mobile hotspot. Good luck.

Try this link at Duncan-Parnell

I've never set up a connection for an ATT phone but for Verizon and Altell you have to set the phone to dial #777 to connect to the internet. The link above should give you enough support to help you figure out the connections. Like someone else said, it's good to get the DC to connect to the web in Windows before you try to do it through your survey program.

Good luck!

I think this is more of an issue of getting his AT&T phone to offer DUN service over bluetooth and setting up his windows mobile data collector to connect with bluetooth and use the DUN service. Setting the dialup networking on windows mobile to dial #, * or whatever it needs to should be trivial, and it surely posted all over the internet. Once again, google is your friend.
