I am preparing to move to the Blue Ridge area this summer and was wondering how the workload is? I have 27 years experience, mainly in construction but I have been doing gas lines for the last couple years. Just looking for some realistic outlooks.

Thanks

I am from North GA, in fact I know a lot of the boys who survey in BlueRidge. From what I hear there is not much going on. I am in Prestonsburg, Ky working for a Co. out of Huntington, WV. GA is pretty much dead right now, if you have a job surveying in GA, you'll do good to hang on to it.

dead upon dead

blue ridge is beautiful but you better bring your money with you when you come cause there ain't much to be made up there. if you do find a job you will be sorely disappointed with the wage it pays. if you don't mind the 1.5 hour drive to metro ATL you might find something but those jobs are still hard to come by. companies running 10 field crews back in '07 are down to 1 or 2.

eastern NC is just as bad if not worse.

If you are talking about Blue Ridge, GA - forget it. Nothing happening there.
Coincedentally I just got off the phone with a friend who lives in Blue Ridge. He works down here about an hour or so south as a manager at our local parks&rec.
My only guess would be to find employment surveying here these days would be to hook up with some of the big firms here: PBS&J, Long Engineering, Lane Engineering, etc. Maybe a law firm dealing in foreclosures as well.
Wish I had better news. Sorry.
E.
