Just got my latest issue today.
Having nothing much else to do and being a nice day out, I took my issue, a jug of tea and sat outside and read the article on "Arrows Across America". A few months ago someone posted some pics about them. Excellent article!
I kept on reading to the next article The Maker Community. It started off talking about 3D modelling and 3D printing and stuff. I wondered what that had to do with surveying until I got to page 3 of the print article and saw the mountain terrains that had been "printed up". Now I understand!!!
I could imagine how handy that would have been to "see" how nasty some mountain terrains we were about to get into on quite a few jobs in the NC mountains I've been involved in. Just grab a big glob of LiDAR point data and model it up without ever leaving the office - rain or shine, bears or not, PO'ed neighbors, etc.
I can also easily imagine some of you laser scanner guys recreating structures like bridges and such modelling up things.
They are a couple of articles I highly recommend reading.

Another article: Bona Fide "Wrongs" is right on point.
His illustrative metaphors are very good.

Ah yes, I started to read that article as well but it was a wee bit outside my purview of understanding. The first paragraph was fine for me and I enjoyed that. After that I was in unknown territory having never done anything regarding GLO or BLM stuff - at least as far as I know of.
I suggest a re-read. Replace BLM and GLO with "owners of parent parcel" and everything fits well. The most frustrating cases I've dealt with have been ones in which surveyors have ignored the evidence in favor or pretty numbers and pro-rata solutions (so-called).
