Just looking to see if anyone could recommend a good Aluminum tripod. I do a fair amount of "Forest" surveying and want a set to reduce the amount of weight I carry. Doesn't matter if it's screw or quick clamp as long as they are sturdy, and built to last.

I've been using Sokkia aluminum tripods since the TS came out in the early 80s.

The thing to watch our for are the fake ones out there that have the right paint job and labeling, except they are made from inferior materials.

Seco makes a Heavy Duty Tripod that is very lightweight and much stronger than most others out there. If I remember correctly it is around $99.00. Feel free to email me for more information. [email protected]

I have been using this Sokkia tripod for about 23 years now. Probably the same one Mr. Harris is using.

Thanks for the input. Might be a Christmas present to myself.

I have Topcon aluminum tripod, and use it for the same reason, I travel the bush a lot and these are 3 lbs lighter than my composite tripods.

We have some old Wild Aluminum tripods. The Leica version were not as good.

We used to do the same thing. Look at a Crain Trimax. We dropped the aluminum ones for these. Ever so slightly heavier (lighter than wood and composites) and crazy stable.

You can't beat the shoulder strap or handle on the Tri-Max tripods. Makes them very easy to carry.
