The Baby Aspirin Thing
No more baby aspirin or vytorin for me, they put me on both, I took them for a couple of months, told the doctor that vytorin made me feel awful and he told me too bad you have to keep using it.
Oh no I don't, did some research, started eating better, working out regularly and my blood work looks good now, it isn't easy but.......
And I'm not going to get blood taken after this holiday season, think I need about 3 months to recover.........
The "Thin Blood" Thing
> When they got me into surgery around 7:00 (after the transfusions) they found a Mallory-Weiss tear, probably caused by esophagus spasms trying to get the stuck food down
A couple of years ago I ordered a salad at a restaurant. It was topped with green apple slices, and instead of cutting each slice in two, I just forked each one (along with lettuce et al) into my mouth and chewed it up. Except for one slice, which somehow slid past my tongue intact. It felt like it stuck halfway down, and I was very uncomfortable, uncomfortable enough that I called the advice nurse later that night. The nurse hooked me up with a doc by phone, and after asking some questions he concluded that the apple wasn't stuck, but that it had probably caused some irritation -- maybe even a small laceration -- of my esophagus on the way down. (By now I was feeling better, but could still feel that something wasn't right.) He prescribed an anti-inflammatory; I think it may have been just high-dosage ibuprofen, or maybe naproxen. After taking that for a few days I was fine, but it's not an experience I'd care to repeat.
The "Thin Blood" Thing
I was lucky in that this occurred about a week prior to the big Ebola scare.
Still the first thing the EMTs asked when I said "fever" and "vomited congealed blood" was if I had traveled outside the country recently.
The "Thin Blood" Thing
I've had two surgeries on my esophagus to stop acid reflux. About once a month or so I get food caught just above my stomach. It's taken several years to gain control over the various reflexes this causes. It does hurt..
All in all I am thankful that my body still functions. 'Thebionicman' isn't that far off the mark. When I pass on I'll probably be sold for scrap at the local recycler. Not much point in grumbling, just press on and keep everything moving...
