The California PLS act states:"Every licensed land surveyor or registered civil engineer may administer and certify oaths..."

My question is, does an unlicensed party chief working under the direction of a PLS have the authority to administer oaths as well?

Just curious.

Thanks,
Jeff

Only If He Is A Notary

Easy enough to do.

No more so than the unlicensed party chief working under a licensed surveyor has to record a Record of Survey.

In a word, no.

I'm heard many party chiefs "Administer Oaths".

In fact, I have heard them administer it to dogs, trees, and to surveying instruments, and cars, and hammers, and I don't think any of our equipment was immune to their oaths. I have heard them administer them to all the crew members, and the PLS included!
