I need to adjust the elevations of points for a survey I just finished. I have done this in the past by using the change command in the edit pulldown menu, and adjusting the elevations.

For some reason, the past two surveys that I have had to adjust the elevations on the survey data, all the points are adjusted to the elevation differential that I input.

In this particular case, I need to adjust the points down by 1.68 feet. When I went through the procedure I outlined above, all the points were adjusted to an elevation of -1.68.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Coordinate file utilities
Translate points
Select points
Use the same value for the points.

Thanks Kris.

I figured there was a better way. I had been doing that in TDS Foresight DXM since I had problems.

Thanks again.

There may be a better way to skin the cat, but translate is very quick and painless. There is even an undo if you eff it up like I'm prone to do.

The Worst Part Of Using The ''Change'' ''Elevation'' Command

Is you see the elevations change on the screen, but they do not change in the crd file. You must then update the crd from the drawing. The more moves you have to do, the greater the chance you mess one up.

This is the method I always use and have never had a problem. When I first started using Carlson years ago, I tried the "Change Elevations" routine that was mentioned, but it didn't work for me either.

The Coordinate File Utilities approach will work.

Also, look for the "Differential" option in the Change -- Elevation command (I suspect you might have had the "Absolute" option specified which will set the points to a single, fixed elevation):

Command: CHGELEV
Type of elevation change [Absolute//Scale]: d

Positive number increases, negative number decreases elevation.
Elevation difference : -1.68

Ignore zero elevations [/No]?

Change Layer for changed entities [Yes/]:

Select Entities for Elevation Change.
Select objects:

Also, for AutoCAD/AutoCAD OEM users, experiment with the Link Points with CRD File option found under Settings -- Carlson Configure -- General Settings:

Enabling this toggle will update your CRD if you happen to make graphical changes to your points (and vice versa).

Thanks. That option was unchecked.

Having that unchecked would require you to have to update CRD from Drawing after rotating the points to say a deed bearing wouldn't it? With this checked, it should automatically update, if I understand correctly. I have always been updating the CRD from the drawing using the coordinate utilities.

Thanks again.
