It had concerned me as we approached post number 500,000 that there was a significant chance that post might be one of our fun little posts that has zero to do with the surveying profession.?ÿ I believe Bill93 intentionally kept track of the countdown as best he could and then began several worthy posts discussing the true practice of boundary surveying to minimize the likelihood of a goofball post being THE POST.?ÿ Thank you.
BTW, I stopped posting when we passed 499950 until it was reported we had achieved number 500000.?ÿ My apologies to all who entered a guess that I would be the one to make THE POST.
Still not sure whether we had passed the mark before my posts.?ÿ We'll see.?ÿ
I wasn't really so high minded. When I woke up this morning, realizing my guess time had passed, I thought up some questions likely to stimulate discussion and rule out the magic time being closer to someone's next later guess. A slightly more honorable way to cheat than just posting a whole bunch of nonsense.
than just posting a whole bunch of nonsense.
Frankly I feel the "nonsense" posted here by all who participated in the silly nonsensical posts contributed to the success of this site. Not all surveyors are dead serious about everything that is discussed and may tend to look at life being fun and serious at the same time. In other words some of us have a sense of humor. This site pulled it off where others could not. I also feel that those who dislike these posts simply not read them rather than to do so and bitch. Perhaps a joint complaint to Wendell will rid this site of those pesky ignorant, despicable things "others" dislike. Then bore yourselves to tears. After all Chit-chat and humor are in the Forum section.?ÿ ?????ÿ
My post was directed at nonsense as a means to manipulate the magic post contest.
By all means keep posting nonsense in the appropriate categories.
The post wasn't directed at you it was meant for the general population. (I like being criticized) ???? ?ÿ
The miscellaneous topics discussed here have definitely benefited?ÿ the site a great deal.?ÿ They add flavor to what could be a very dry, dusty place, such as what killed another site for surveyors.?ÿ Even when we may not be able to help someone with a question about Model XYZ Thingamajig and it's propensity to fail under certain conditions we can all relate to standing in line at a supermarket and witnessing something bizarre happening.?ÿ This gives everyone a greater potential to feel welcomed and thus tend to post things more frequently.?ÿ That openness may compare somewhat to the old days when employees might hang around the water cooler or break room swapping stories as a brief diversion from the seriousness of the remainder of their day.?ÿ This a tremendous help to some of us.?ÿ As an example, I have yet to speak to a human today.
Now, to go start a thread about an unwelcome guest this morning at my home.
