I wound up this afternoon with a helper, pin-finder and shovel. Some scheduling issues made me short handed and this "friend of a friend" has been calling almost every day to see when we're going to show up and pin his residence. I just needed to get out there and 'make an appearance'. If I could find a few pins and corners, I'd be able to direct the real crew that will be showing up tomorrow.

As we walked along the sidewalk whistlin' up what front pins we could find, I notice an older gentlemen just exiting a car in the driveway of our subject property. I introduced myself and it was indeed the client. We've had several phone conversations over the last week or so.

It was approaching 3:15 PM and the elementary school parking lot across the street was starting to fill up with soccer moms and RAV4s. The client mentioned we had better get a move on because in 5 minutes it would become a traffic deadlock. I had done what I had set out to do so I bid adieu to the client.

When I told him the crew would be back in the AM he seriously asked me, "what time?" I told him the crews left the office about 8 and they always stop for a 7-11 cup of coffee, thinking I don't know about it...so somewhere around 8:45 or 9 would be a good guess.

He thought for a second and said that would probably be OK, but it couldn't be too much later than that....Because he starts drinking on Fridays about 10 in the morning and doesn't like to be disturbed!

I thanked him for letting us know and promised the crew wouldn't disturb his Friday activity...

Running into an honest man is like a breath of fresh air in this day and age! B-)

LOL! Honesty is Great!

Because he starts drinking on Fridays about 10 in the morning and doesn't like to be disturbed!

LMAO! About how old a gent is this? Reminds me of my younger day. Wouldn't be at 10 am on Friday. More like 3 in the afternoon until 10 pm Sunday night. OH HOW DID I SURVIVE THOSE DAYS? But I was always a quiet surveyor on the job. Sober for sure!

Had an adjoiner like that on a job last year. We were working in HIS block one hot morning when he came out to check on us. We explained the adventure we were set upon and he immediately offered to help. He and several of his close relatives had owned nearly every house on that half of the block at one time or another. A couple of surveys had been made but never made it to the courthouse records. He lead us around pointing to places where he was certain ol' Stick in the Mud had set them roughly 25 years ago. BAM! We found all but one of the ones he remembered. That one had a good reason to be missing. We thanked him profusely for his help. He told us it was a really good thing we were there in the morning because he always left about noon to pick up a 30-pack and was pretty much worthless by 1:30 or so most days.

I once knew a surveyor, who would bring a large jug to the job. line out the crew. Sit on a stump, and open the Jug.... It was in Montgomery Co. Arkansas!
