Really?!
It's amazing that people can't understand the way a professional organization works, and the way day to day expenses, operating expenses, dues, benefits, handouts, etc., etc., all have role in an overall organizational budget.
It also amazes me how many business owners complain about the cost of membership in a professional organization dedicated to improving conditions in the industry, but yet do not participate in improving conditions in the industry in any way, except to b_itch and moan.
The cost of such a membership (especially if it becomes $40) is the profit on one survey, if you have structured your business properly. Expenses like CEU fees, conference trips and lodging, (especially if they are state mandated), etc., should all be built into your overhead.
Engineers taking over land surveying will certainly not be stopped by posting here and complaining about it, while joining NSPS (and encouraging this new state society mebership program) just might help the situation.
I defy any of you ....
Me too. And it was my state rep to ACSM who was the Budget chair that did not have a clue. The fact that the state assoc would vote this guy into office, then send him to DC to represent them was just too much. Competence is simply not required. Charisma of charlatans wins the day.
I simply cannot be a member of that. Goes against my principles.
I've been "wait and see" every since those days. Still waiting to see the sea change that must happen to make me reach for my wallet.
I defy any of you ....
When I first joined ACSM, there was no such thing as NSPS. Matter of fact, I was proud to say I was a member Of ACSM for nearly 20 years. But, when the bureaucrats started ruining the once really only surveyor organization, I think prior to any State organizations, I decided when they did what they did, I would support the State Organizations or Societies. I belong to 3 different State Organizations where I am licensed and have since the 1970's and will probably continue to do so.
NSPS, way back when ACSM tried to take all the monies from the various member Organizations, NSPS and the others 20 ± years ago, and NSPS wanted to breakaway from ACSM at that time, nothing happened. All, they did was talk about it for the past 20± years.
Also, the ACSM boondoggle was one of the reasons WestFed was formed.
