Wrapped up a survey to chop a wedge-shaped 30.00 acre tract off of a quarter section on September 29, 2000. The current owner of the 30 hired us to find the corners and a few line monuments. We did that yesterday.
We must have made the same mistakes in the same places both times because yesterday's numbers were consistently virtually identical with those from 2000. Experience indicates differences should be expected for any number of potential reasons.
It always a good that you agree with a previous survey you did even if it is as wrong as a turd in a punch bowl.

Yup, even when the East 200ft of the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 measures 200ft on the south end and 220ft on the north end. Actually it wasn't my survey, but it's been perpetuated over the years.

Well there you go, at least you're consistent. Consistently wrong but consistent nonetheless. To do otherwise would probably invite the ire of everyone in the area affected by your self righteous do-Gooding and leave you to wallowing in self doubt and misery while you tell anyone who will listen to you that "I was mathematically right so how can I be wrong".

If the monument & occupation have been there 50 years, measurements suddenly just become numbers. Some numbers are tall and slender and some are wide and crooked, but found, accepted, perpetuated, original monuments relegate numbers to the status of data.
I am always wrong. Just like the guys I follow.

As am I and since I have been married for a long time I get reminded of that every day.
precision vs. accuracy
