1.) By the book surveying. ie, Record Title. ie, Deed Staking. Literally. The deed on the ground.

2.) Freedom for a professional surveyor, to yield to found monumentation, especially old monumentation, even if it does not fit the deeds.

Nate, I suspect that in the future there will be great effort to hold the written record within a defined precision. Land values will be the driving force. I think we are in a transition period today, don't expect that transition to be graceful or uniform nation wide, new laws will be created supporting the new over the old and those new laws will initially cause discord.

Nate-

When a question of the parcel's boundary description arises, I look at it's boundary's "intent" .......................... as "in tent" is not just a camping term alone.

I like it. Short and to the point. At least in theory, but not so simple in practice. But that is part of what makes this so much fun.

A surveyor is literally what connects #1 and #2 above. And, it is HIS interpretation, and methods, that determine which end of the spectrum he is at, or somewhere in the middle. That is what a surveyor is.
