Interesting little project to define the Mayflower Descendants "Park" in Truro, celebrating the great Corn Theft by the Pilgrims.
Miles Standish and company landed at Provincetown first, and he hiked the shore southerly to Truro where the group found a stash of Indian corn which they immediately confiscated.?ÿ ?ÿThe Pilgrims were pursued down to Eastham where there was a little skirmish at "First Encounter Beach."?ÿ ?ÿI grew up just about a mile down the road from First Encounter Beach! lol
So here's the dilemma; The description is based on the Plaque Location as set in 1898, per the deed from LD Baker.?ÿ Lorenzo Dow Baker, of Wellfleet, was a large landowner, United Fruit founder, and the man credited with?ÿ introducing the banana to North America.
The Mayflower plaque was moved in the early 80's to more easily accommodate visitors.?ÿ Instead of being on the peak of Corn Hill, the supposed site of the corn stash, the marker was moved to the bottom of the hill near the Corn Hill Beach parking lot!?ÿ
My first thought when I reviewed this RFP was it would be a piece of cake, until I was told that the marker had been moved!?ÿ ?ÿsince we purchased another surveying firm a couple of years ago (one that had been in business since 1947) I checked their files and sure enough, that marker was located in 1971!?ÿ?ÿ
Now it's time to set some concrete!

As a side note, I've heard that there is a question about the access / easement location to that site. Are you looking into that? One of our Scouts is looking at doing his Eagle Scout project there.
