I have to re establish Lot 6 of this block and just noticed something about the lots. There is an area difference of lots 5 and 16 compared to the lots east of them, North being up screen.

The two middle lots west of the 20 foot alley also have different areas than the lots North and South of them.

What did that old 1885 surveyor know that is shown on this map that I sure do not know at this time?

PS Those lines going east/west are just scan lines on the PDF..nothing about the properties.

There's a 25-foot road north of the north tier, and another south of the south tier, and the lots extend to the centerline. The lots adjacent to the 20-foot alley also extend to the centerline thereof.

Yeah, I had figured the 1/2 width, but forgot to double it in my description.

It took me an extra minute or two to hammer out acreages on my crackberry, but I had 'er figgered out fairly quick too.

Nice brain-sharpener, Paul!

Thanks. I am, after all, close to 50...as long as 7 years still counts as "close."

If you want to see me in my "close to 60" mode, try this one, taken a couple of weeks ago as the temperature was approaching 108°F:

I was one of about a dozen volunteers helping Marti Ikehara measure the new Sacramento calibration base line. Even though I was in the shade most of the day punching numbers into the teeny-tiny HP-200LX palmtop, by 4:30 I felt like someone had worked me over with a baseball bat. I went through 8 liters of water and still couldn't stay hydrated.

That's what getting old is doing to me -- the resilience just isn't what it used to be.
