Thought this was pretty cool. During the winter months I like to build models from scratch, so I might make this into a project.

What scale? About 1/20th scale would be a pretty impressive model! Looking forward to a step by step pictorial when its finished. Have fun!

Always remember my dad talking about the bilby towers. A few months ago he called and said they had published an artical in American surveyor. Heres the link http://www.amerisurv.com/PDF/TheAmericanSurveyor_Crattie-BilbyTowers_Vol8No4.pdf

I was "lucky" to have experienced the thrill of climbing several of these during the early 1970's. Our crew was tasked with measuring the H.I. using a 100' steel tape.
The issue we had was if or how much tension to pull since there was no catenary in the tape. Don't remember what the conclusion was. Boy, climbing those rebar steps on the outside leg with no safety harness was a little scarey but I was just the Survey Aid. We also visited many unusual triangulation station locations on buildings and and other tall stuctures.
