Is this the Ranger 200 series? I have been told that only the T series collectors can connect to the newer computers, but I may be mistaken.

I connect my Ranger 200T to my WindowsXP desktop with a nine pin serial cable. I have to use the 25 pin multiport adapter with the usb port to connect it to my Vista laptop.

I am sure that I will have to use the same adapter when I upgrade laptops in th every near future. I am hoping to get a Windows 7 64bit in the next month or so.

Have you verified active sync won't let you use a serial connection? You might be able to run activsync in "compatibility mode" in win 7.

You'd need to find a copy of activsync though, and be aware win 7 won't "like" it, and try to force you into the new "device center" or whatever they call it.

The USB -> serial dongle is probably needed.

Worst case, what's so wrong with keeping a winXP box running on the network?
