Is anyone familiar with viewing pdf files stored on a micro SDHC card on an Android tablet?
I have a Coby MID8048 8" tablet with jpeg images and pdf files stored on the micro SDHC card. Adobe reader is loaded as an app and also ASTRO file manager. When I connect by cable to the PC, the files stored on the micro card are shown and are all accessible on the PC screen. When I go stand alone on the tablet, the jpeg files are viewable from the Gallery. Where are the pdf files stored or how are they accessed?
Hopefully Stephen Ward will see this and reply. He was showing me his tablet a few weeks ago, and he is very familiar with this.
My Samsung tablet has a seperate directory for the SD card that is accessed through "My Files" (I think thats what it is, I don't have the tablet with me).
If you have a Kindle App for your tablet, when you regester the app, they will give you a Kindle e-mail address. you can send the file by email to that address, then when you open the Kindle App and are hooked up to the internet, it will download the PDF file to your tablet and it will be avaliable as a book in the Kindle Reader.
Download the app DOCUMENTS TO GO and access your card through it.
My main problem seems to be that I don't have the Google Play Store app which is required for downloading the Google apps. Even though the Coby Android tablets are popular, Google does not support it so I can't download the needed apps.
quick search and found this video....
Says... you can go to amazon and download free "android app" which will allow you access to alot of apps.... might work for your tablet.
One quick thing I do is take pictures of plans (c-size) with my tablet and you'll be amazed the clarity when zooming in on them for information.
One more route to go is using autocad ws APP, if supported by your tablet it is another great little tool for having plans/ dwgs out in the field.
I hope one of these suggestions applies to your needs.
cheers.

Richard hit the nail on the head. With my Samsung I have an app that was pre-loaded called "My Files". This is the Android equivalent of Windows Explorer. When I open "My Files" I can then navigate to my microSD card and chose a pdf file and it will automatically open in Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader seems to keep a running list of all of the files that it has opened previously and knows what directory they are in, but I couldn't find a way to point it to a new directory to open a newly loaded pdf file.
As for the issue of no Google Play support you might try the Amazon App store. They have much of the same content and tend to have less restrictions on supported hardware. I think you can install it on your tablet by using the internet browser on the tablet to go to Amazon.com and click on "Android App Store" and I think it will start the process.
It appears that I need to find the equivalent of "My Files" for the Coby Tablet. If I place the jpeg images and pdf files directly on the Tablet they are both easily viewable under "ES File Explorer" and then simply finding the named file where they are being stored. The SDHC card does not come up in the ES File Explorer area as a drive. The jpeg images on the SDHC card are in the "Gallery" app, but there are no pdf files with them. I've called Coby tech support and they are at a loss when it comes to software issues. I have to use the SDHC card because the size of the files I have stored on it is larger than what the Coby tablet can hold.
Viewing pdf's on Tablets. (The Solution)
I finally got a tech person who knew exactly what to do. If you have a Coby MID 8048 tablet do the following to access the files on the SDHC card.
- Insert the SDHC card. The card icon should appear in the lower right of the screen if the card is properly mounted.
- On the main tablet screen click on the "ES File Explorer" icon.
- In the upper left corner of the screen, click on the "Favorites" button.
- The drive for the SDHC card should now appear on the screen. /mnt/ext_sd/
- Click on this drive. The files on the SDHC card should now appear. Click on the appropriate file and all files, jpeg, pdf, etc. should now appear and be useable.
