All,
Anybody have any experience with VDatum? I downloaded the program and supporting Tidal files, and keep getting "out of area" error messages when I try to convert between NAVD88 and a Tidal Datum. The horizontal coordinate I input is well within the tidal transformation area zone. I did not see any kind of installation instructions, so I just extracted the zip file and the Tidal datum transformation files to the same folder. It seems to convert between NAVD88 and NGVD29 OK, but I need some tidal datum conversions. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dale

FWIW,

Did you check out http://vdatum.noaa.gov/docs/userguide_animated.html

No real experience with the program since its early days.

If there are tidal benchmarks within your project area and they have NAVD88 heights they will show the relationship between height systems. An example is available here: http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/benchmarks.html?id=8775870

You can always send an email to the address on the page.

Cheers,

DMM

GeeOdd,
I looked at the animated thing, and it shows you how to input data into the program. It doesn't say anything about installation or troubleshooting. I have some Tidal Benchmarks in the area, and will do the conversions manually, but it would be nice to have a functioning datum conversion program. I guess I'll bite the bullet and send them an email. Thanks for your response.

I have used it quite a bit and got the same errorrs at first until I realized the first input field is longitude (use to entering latitude first) and you have to put the negative sign in front of the latitude (-122 28 01 for example). If you get everything entered correctly and your location is within the coverage area, it works quite well.

Good luck.

Goddsc,

You are the MAN! It worked. I knew it was probably pilot error on my part.

THANKS!
