I have a job that is stored in the NIVO 5m. This is the first time to try this connection on this PC. My PC does not have a 9 pin serial port. I have been able to connect to the pc by standard serial over bluetooth on COM 13 and COM 14. Com 1 is being used by a "I/O Range" resource and and"IRQ" resource. the trimble data utility when setting up the NIVO device only allows me to choose the COM 1 port and not select the COM 13 and 14 that the NIVO is connected to on the bluetooth. I am missing something somewhere. I had this all setup on an older PC that had XP but it has since lost the magic smoke. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks,

OK, After 10 hours of desk time and the rest of the weekend pissing off my wife because I am always preoccupied with work, I have decided to send my field guy to the nearest shop that has a brand new cable that I can trust and that hasn't been in the bottom of the main office survey closet. Any suggestions on getting a cable for a Nikon Nivo 5m in Austin or San Antonio in the morning?

I dug out an older Pentium 4 xp machine that I sometimes wish would come back into style without reverting to the blue screen of lessor PC's. I think I will be able to make it work with a new cable. I had 4 cables handed to me at the big office and they said that they were iffy. I bet they are all dead and in the closet because someone didn't want to take the blame for malfunctioning equipment. I think that might be an issue that many of us have with our field crews and field crew manager. I think I am going to start influencing the powers that be to promote boy scout logic and not duct tape rules. I would go into detail but I think that you all get the drift. Of course If I were to follow those rules then I would not be in the pinch that I am in ..................well underwear mud.............. I know it is a dead topic for the weekend but If you guys have any input on the Nikon total stations and downloading tricks, I will be very grateful, thanks,
