I'm looking at the demo of the latest TBC (don't have a license key yet).

It appears that after 13 years Trimble might have finally got most of the capability of TerraModel into TBC. I've used TerraModel for a long time to produce survey plats and do site plan designs. Has anyone here used TBC to produce and print/plot a survey plat suitable for recording/filing? If so what say you, has Trimble finally delivered an acceptable TerraModel replacement? I for the most part had given up!

I was told that they had come out with some improved drafting capabilities but havent seen it yet. I still use Terramodel for just about everything. Went to a couple of classes for TBC for building machine files, but havent had time to try to learn it yet. Maybe this winter.

Going to Trimble Dimensions tomorrow, maybe I can pick up some info there.

They finally added smart text, plotboxes and dynaviews. You can import a TM.pro file. Plot pdf files (haven't figured out out to control line width yet). It's been a long dry spell for sure! A lot of stuff that was missing has shown up!

Are the Dos files .pro?

.pro import like other CAD files. Alignments and surfaces come in as such.

12D looks interesting. Doesn't appear to have much market share in the US. Interestingly TBC will import 12D files.

12D is very popular here. Its in use by most of the non-leica shops.

In particular it is popular because of the way it handles the LandXML files coming out of Landonline, our government survey recording system.

It feels a lot like a grown up version of TrimMap 🙁

I think the dos *.pro files were 16 bit files and the first windows version (8.41), was also 16 bit. Later in about 9+, TM was re-written as a 32 bit program and no longer loaded the 16 bit files.

I think that shortly after TerraCad became TerraModel, there was an 8 bit to 16 bit converter for older files.

The arrogancy of the programmers didn't allow for the programmers to consider a conversion for 16 bit files into 32 bit files.

Their answers to my inquiry(in 1995), was that I should have exported all(1000's), my files to DXF ... THANKYOU ...

It would be nice to be able to see the old TM files, since those files show all the "hidden", field information and personal notes.

Where I'm working is all Trimble and before that I was on Sokkisha, so I'm not that familiar with Leica but

I know a good number of Leica shops use LISCAD - which is really nice product out of Australia 🙂

Nobody much is using Carlson down here yet 🙁
