A few versions back, Access added the ability to automatically add a prefix to points stored after staking.?ÿ For example, if I'm staking point #1 and I have the prefix set to S, the resulting point will be #S1.?ÿ I like to change the prefix each time I stake a site to create a clean record of my work.?ÿ Until now the only way I knew to change the prefix was to edit the survey style prior to beginning the survey.?ÿ Trying to edit the survey style after you've resected or completed the station setup routine results in a message that the change will not affect the current survey.?ÿ?ÿ

Yesterday I realized that I can change the prefix under the options dialog in the stake screen and it will be reflected in any points staked in the remainder of the job. It's the little things that make the day go smoother.

Good to know!

?ÿ

Due to the large amount of staking done on route surveys and then having to "prove" what was staked or re-staked, we started using an identifier in the feature description. When staking we use STK-(#being staked), when re-staking we use RSTK-(#being re-staked). Once the points are brought into Civil3d, a point style is set for each description giving a unique display in the drawing so the information can be separated easier.
