Anybody know what I need to do to fix this…
Every time I plug in my TCS5 when I come in from the field, my TBC locks up for about 5 minutes before it recognizes the data collector. It never crashes or anything but as soon as I hit “file transfer” on the data collector, it’s painfully slow loading. My computer was custom built less than a year ago and our other surveyors do not have the problem on their identical computers (or almost identical from what I know…computers and specs aren’t my wheelhouse but the same person custom built them)
I didn't know the TSC5 had ports and cabling that would connect to a computer. If you have TBC and the TSC5 why not use trimble sync manager? No cables, you can send and receive files anywhere you can access wifi, it's great!
Often, we'll send the crew out without all the files (because they are still being prepared) and let them know they'll be ready for download by them when they get to the job site.
Works great the other way too, if they are obtaining a time crucial piece of information we can access the data minutes after they are complete.
Agree with the cloud transfer. I'm surprised at how many organizations purchase the gear/software and don't take advantage of that option.
Although Sync Manager leaves a lot to be desired....but fortunately it will be going away in the near future.
We haven't had any issues with sync manager in the years we've been using it. You say it's going away? What's the replacement?
There will be a direct connection through TBC (the "connected workspace" in 2023.1 is the first bare-bones iteration of it), or through the Trimble Connect web browser, which is apparently getting an overhaul. Personally, I like the web browser even though its interface is less than intuitive. I've had fewer problems seeing projects & jobs in there, and fewer errors than with Sync.
For us as an organization, the main problems Sync has had are more its secondary features.
It used to support drag & drop, then it didn't. The "gold chain" icon made for some serious confusion among field users during the 2021 switch, and even now causes problems for users who keep forgetting that if it's not selected by the office they have to manually select it for download.
We still have office users who try to upload a bunch of project information to the reference files that isn't an Access linkable file. Like PDFs and KMZs and images.
Duplicate projects are a constant irritant. We have multiple offices in some regions and roughly 120 geomatics staff, so the initial team members added are just the office that the contract is with. However, we do a lot of workshare, even across states/regions, and it's not uncommon for there to be two projects of the same name because there's no automated checking for the same project name before creation. While it sounds minor, we do occasionally spin our wheels looking for "lost" projects, and that can eat up a lot of time chasing down whoever created the project and adding more team members to it.
(But all this could just be because I'm the technical lead on Trimble for my organization and get a little tired of the frequent flyers who can't be bothered to read the help files and realize that the software can't read their minds, even after they've been using it for 3+ years.)
I copy files to one drive from TSC7, or USB drive if scan files
I use a TSC5. I’ve created a separate upload and download file under the Trimble Data Folder in the TSC5. At the end of the day, open whatever job you want to download in Trimble Access (on the TSC5), choose file type from list and download files into the above mentioned folder. DC file is my go-to as it can be ‘dragged and dropped’ into TBC.
I use a USB C cable and plug it directly into computer. A screen of options will come up on the TSC5, choose file transfer and it will connect to windows explorer.
No external program needed.
I’m not at my desk right now, but I can tell you that .job files are also available while you are in file explorer. I think they are under the individual job files in the TSC5.
