So I've been doing some design and fine tuning a corridor as one of my projects and at long last I was able to take poly lines and make them into a fully functional assembly! However, it took awhile to understand everything and I still need to learn more about them. Does anyone have a good source for learning more about assemblies? Civil3d 2011 and the help/tutorials are rather absent of explanations.

Curly,

There are several good books out there on Civil 3D: Mastering..., Harnessing..., Procedures and Applications..., Digging Into..., etc.

Cheapest route is YouTube. Autodesk has their own channel, and there is an amazing number of really good video lessons on every aspect of Civil 3D.

I did some designs in C3D, it was pretty difficult but i figured it out purely from common sense and some technical know how along with some help from a civil engineer
but i would recommend the sub-assembly composer for C3D if you are designing a complete custom subassembly, good luck with the youtube videos, not much books around that helped

Some users have trouble creating Civil 3d assemblies because they look at it as joining together pieces to make a picture of the section that they are trying to design. I tell them to think of it as linking together pieces of code to create a program.

If you have specific questions then I will try to answer here, or you can post to the Autodesk Civil3d discussion group.
