Looking for suggestions here.

We are using Leica VIVA equipment and usually process and adjust our data in STAR*NET v7. We export field data through custom data export and with some editing run through STAR*NET.

Our format file (DBX -> .DAT) spits out this kind of data:

DB 5 'SPIKE
DN 133 178.2206
DM 133 178.2206 96.692 95.0106 1.562/1.700 'MAGNAIL
DM 422 0.4413 12.470 90.0110 1.562/0.400 'IPSET
DM 423 176.3116 3.131 118.5125 1.562/0.400 'LPSET
DE

PRO: measurements to our at our backsight is included.
CON: traverse and side shots are included together.

Firstly, do you see any other cons?
Secondly, do you have any suggestions as to how to separate control and legal ties (traverse) from topo side shots?

Thank you in advance and I apologize if this topic was already discussed.

I prefer to keep the control traverse/network as a separate file from the topo so that I can deal with it as a separate thing. That is, turning off the topo shots declutters the plot and doesn't include a bunch of stuff in computing the adjustment statistics that doesn't really belong there.

If you use the "M" and "DV" data types for the forward and back shots on the traverse and "SS" data type for sideshots, you also have the option of combining in all in one file and just turning off the "SS" data on the plot. I keep them separate to simplify debugging.

I suppose that you have the option of simply copying your direction set file and deleting the topo shots from one copy of the file and deleting the control shots from the other.
