In Adobe Standard (9.0) there is a measure tool to measure distances with. This tool comes with snap features like we are all used to in CAD. If someone wanted, they could measure distances on a PDF that I made. Though the measurement is in inches, a simple multiplier of the scale and they will have the dimensions (exactly) from my CAD file. This is not something I want to be available in all cases.
Is there a way to take this functionality out of a PDF file? I was thinking if the file was more pixelated it would work, but that is just mean. Not beyond me, but kind of mean. :-@
I never knew that the measuring tool even existed. It is only available to users of Adobe Reader if you enable it. To disable it for users of Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro you have to set your security settings to restrict editing of the pdf when you create it. In Version 10 you have to check the Restrict Editing and Printing box, set a password, select the printing resolution allowed, and most importantly set Changes Allowed to None. Now when they open the pdf it will say (SECURED) after the file name at the top of the screen and the measuring tool will be grayed out.
If you plot to PDF, one can download a free demo and convert your PDF to a DWG.
If you scan the document, then they cannot convert.
