So I've been running a small survey side gig a few years now.?ÿ ?ÿMost of the time I've been exporting my data out (via Trimble Access) to a points file or shape files for engineers and drafters.?ÿ Now I want to start doing more inhouse CAD work.?ÿ I already run QGIS and ArcMap.?ÿ ?ÿI don't yet have a proper CAD software.?ÿ ?ÿI have a long history in AutoCAD use (first used it at AutoCAD Revision 12) and am more familiar with it.?ÿ ?ÿBeing a father and son shop that work jobs in the evening and on weekends, is AutoCAD a good buy for me??ÿ It's very expensive and I really don't care for the license model.?ÿ My question to the teeming masses of Surveyors:?ÿ ?ÿIs purchasing an older, less expensive, stand alone, version of AutoCAD Civil3D 2014 a solid answer to get me to through the next couple of years until I can upgrade??ÿ ?ÿOr should I look elsewhere??ÿ Just so you know, the field equipment I'm running is a Trimble 5603 total station, Trimble TSC2 with Access 2015, and a Trimble R8-2 GNSS running VRS.?ÿ ?ÿMy current equipment and software may older, but still work well for me.
Thanks!
I decided to go with Civil3D.?ÿ ?ÿI'm familiar with the AutoCad Environment and felt the transition/training curve would be less steep.?ÿ Thanks for all the replies and advice!?ÿ ?ÿNow I just need a good Civil3D training course.?ÿ Especially for my son, who has no cad experience.?ÿ He is, however, very tech savvy.
