Your January 17th comment about the Brother 6490Cw scanning to a Microsoft Word format intrigues me.

How do you do it? I can only find instructions to scan to e-mail, OCR, image, FTP and file.

Any other comments would be appreciated.

(I scanned a deed to OCR but it ended up on my notepad and now I can't find it. It was only a test anyway.)

I don't have one of these, but try page 72 of this Users Manual. Look at how to configure the OCR to default to a specific application (such as MS Word).

You will need the ControlCenter3 installed from the CD that came with the 6490CW

Open the control center
click SCAN
click Configuration
move cursor over SCAN
click OCR
new menu will pop up

choose Target Application
If your preferred is not there click Add and follow instructions to add the program you want

Choose your settings and you will be ready next time you need to scan and OCR

Note there is a tab for Software Button and for Device Button

It will hold your settings for each task of the 6490CW

Messers Ward and Harris

Wow!

That was easy!

Thank you all very much for your comments and help.

(And it never hurts to have a cute dog either.)

I scanned an email I had already printed out. The 6490CW copied everything exactly except it colored the email addresses blue, deleted the "bold", rearranged all the paragraph spacing to "none" and returned all the type to one size (Times Roman 12).
