I recall the old MC-V that was tethered around my neck and attached to the Pentax PTS-Viii (perhaps I do not recall the right names, but I certainly remember being trapped at those legs).
Anybody still tether their DC?

Not me, but my data collector is cabled to the total station. You never can predict when you're going to need to move on the spur of the moment and having to unlasso oneself from a data collector might not happen in the frenzy of the instant.
Tethering means something different today ... I tether my DC to my cell phone for RTK corrections.
I've never strapped a DC around my neck, but The first version of ground penetrating radar I used required you to wear a laptop on you chest with an over the shoulder harness, then drag the radar behind you. Now it's more like pushing a baby carriage with a tablet computer built into the cart. Now sure why they didn't think of that design in the first place.
All I can say is thank goodness for bluetooth.

I have a new field guy who is more comfortable with the unit around his neck. The other day, for unknown reasons, the DC hard rebooted while there. They didn't even recognize the hard reboot for what it was (which really makes me want to hard reboot something). It got me thinking of the position of the DC and wondering if anybody still uses this technique.
The MC-V was great because it had large buttons. When you were topo-ing, you could reach down and press the shoot button, only picking up the unit when you changed rod height or description. Even with bluetooth, I would never hang the DC around my neck.
