Police want instant geo-data on 000 calls

Recently lives lost as no known location . One road accident victim rang 000 but had no idea where he was on a road in middle of night in mid north of S OZ. As a consequence he died before being discovered as few cars passing. Coordinates from mobiles would have located search area as calls probably go to an interstate central call centre and when caller does not know their location it is impossible to send emergency services.

Does the states have a geo data reference system from mobile phones?

My phone has the option to turn off all satellite tracking except 911 which is not an option.

Yes, E-911.

It's a double edged sword. Basically every mobile phone must have a gps chip that tracks your every move. They can use it to find you if you call 911. It can also be used for other purposes.

Our gov. has basically implanted a GPS tracking device in every Americans hand, with their permission. In the name of safety.

In the past, they could triangulate your position using signal strength to around 300 yards using cell towers. However that did not suit the "other use" very well. Thus the GPS chip.

If they want to find you, they can turn on GPS tracking and most any feature of your phone from a workstation located anywhere.

The GPS standard feature of you phone that you can turn on or off is primarily for being able to view on your bill what tower or area the calls originate.

The GPS location and maps feature lets you view your location on your phone.

Basically, we are paying for the privilege of being spied upon.
