When I started doing GPS work 30 years ago (1986), I soon realized I needed a way to archive data. One of the first ways I used was to back data up onto VHS tapes somehow using a VCR, that did not work very well. I was never able to retrieve that old data. I also used tape drives, also not very reliable. Then I went to floppies. This was in the DOS days. So, I have lots of old data that is backed up in a variety of ways. A lot of it is just zipped into archives on floppy disks. But, I have quite a bit of data that was backed up using several programs, fastback is one, norton backup is another. I still have the fastback install disks (5 1/4"), but of course I don't have a machine that is running dos. When I do a search for Norton backup, it comes up with their current offering, what I really need is the old install disks. Also I need some dos install disks, I think I can use an old computer here that still has floppy drives into a pre-windows dos machine.
Any advice? Can anyone offer some old dos install disks?

Scroll down to the bottom for the setup files. Fastback, Norton, etc.
Thanks very much, looks like exactly what I need!
Since I started my own business in 1997 I have been archiving to CD's and later to DVD's. Now, with hard drives being so cheap (and large), I am having my daughter (on summer break from law school) transfer all of those over to an external hard drive. Only 172 disks. They will probably all fit on one drive.
John,
I copied the DOS 6.0 Install Disks (3 of them) to my server some time ago. I can dropbox them to you, if you would like...
Matt
survey at eg-wi dot com
Matt: that would be great, thanks
John,
Shoot me an e-mail address to survey at eg-wi dot com and I will send you a dropbox invite...

Careful there : for the sake of a small sum copy onto two different hard drives and get your daughter to look after the second copy.
Good advice. I will clone the drive after it is finished. I will also keep all of the disks, I just won't have to search through them anymore.
I used fastback up until I got a tape drive. It's still installed on my dos machine but I haven't tried the tapes in years. I networked the dos machine to my windows 98 machine and copied all the data files to a flash drive on the 98 computer.
I put a bunch of data on tapes, and when I tried to access it the tapes were bad (or the drive was bad).
I guess we are all showing our age!
