So, we bought a new Carlson CR2+ robot a cople of weeks ago. Also a Carlson RT3 tablet data collector with SurvPC V5.

The plan was to replace our Nikon total station (which I thought was still plenty good as a backup) with it eventually, after using the CR2+ on a few small jobs as a learning curve. But as fate would have it, about 5 setups into 125 acre boundary, the Nikon decided to take itself out of service. So, we had to finish the job with equipment we had very limited experience using. Most of that experience being during a demo, and a half day of training. Eventually, we got the raw file processed and balanced to suit me. I have less hair now, but hey, it's done.

Any way, my questions for you good folks are these. When I back sight a point SurvPC assigns that record type as BK. I also see the BD, FD, BR, and FR for set collection. Everything else it assigns as SS for side shot. Is there something I'm missing that will let me assign different record types to my occupation points, control points, and such? I can edit all that in the rw5 file in the raw editor in Carlson 2018 on the desktop computer, but can it be done as the points are being stored in the field to prevent having to sort that all out once back in the office? Does any of that even matter in adjusting a traverse as long as the occupation points and back sight points are the correct point numbers?

The Nikon used cgr files for raw data and I'm struggling to make my small brain adjust to the format of rw5 files.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

It doesn't matter.?ÿ I've used TDS and Carlson for years.?ÿ I use Carlson Survey office software, and it will process them the same.?ÿ I usually use Tools/Reduce Direct-Reverse, which converts the BD/BR - FD/FR to a single SS.?ÿ
