@rover83?ÿ

True.?ÿ

17-19 kinda sucked. 2020 plus esp 2022 were very easy to work with to get thisgs aligned, and this was post come to Jesus of course.

The easiest way is to let you build a work flow and then if need be lock down the random data Import from random sources. Controlling, yes. But it save hours of wasted time trying to rectify the potential pitfalls of nonstandardized data sets and saves time in the long run. They can always go open their own shop and pull all the webmercator Googlebingblahblah crap in for anything they wish to do so.

get off my lawn..

???? ???œ?ÿ

@rover8 I did a little playing around this morning as my coffee was trying to activate my brain lol. I was able to bring in my template from one job easily into TBC. As you stated some things in the boarder did not come in. But i have it started. The other thing is I am still civil3d less they for whatever reason are still having issues. So I tested dragging in a dwg from civil3d into TBC most everything came in and I could have worked with it. Now the simple project I need to connect some dots from points to points comes in but I see all these squares where points are supposed to be and they have some darn autcad label in them. It has to be user error on my part but this is literally a simple sketch we give daily to a client to show him his progress. I guess i have some more reading to do. Crazy cad stuff. Why canƒ??t points be points and lines be lines lol. But thank you for getting me this far with the plan sets template thingy.?ÿ

Cogo points are a proprietary Civil 3D item, like feature lines, alignments, surfaces, etc. All those things need to be transformed or exploded to basic CAD entities before going out of C3D.

Basically, you can think of TBC as the equivalent of straight vanilla AutoCAD. If an object would get converted/exploded using the "export to AutoCAD" utility in C3D, it's not going to come in correctly to TBC.

TBC likes CSVs for point imports. It handles most linework really well. Text is hit-or-miss depending on the fonts and text styles used in C3D.

@rover83 Thank you. So i need to delete those smart cad points and then i can bring in my csv file which is what i brought into civil3d. Then just figure out how to explode lines or anything else that doesnƒ??t work in TBC. So cad and tbc have their own proprietary things that makes you need both programs regardless unless its been saved some way in a common format. ?ÿSmart business moves for both companies. Just makes it difficult for us. ?ÿThank you again.

TBC is not a drafting tool in the same way Civil3d is not a network adjustment tool.?ÿ Sure, they both claim to be but we all know it's just marketing.?ÿ Civil3d is a great powerful drafting tool in the same way TBC is a great powerful survey processing tool.?ÿ Use each for their own strengths.

@wa-id-surveyor I donƒ??t disagree. I imagine civil3d is very powerful for sure. I would just like to have a backup. I am going into my third full work day with two different IT folks and they canƒ??t get civil3d to reinstall on my computer. Thankfully my cad person was back in today and I just processed some field data and qa/qc and export the points for drafting. But I am trying to learn the drafting especially in civil3d but as of now it is not even on my machine. I took some of rovers ideas and started working in TBC cad drafting. To me I am smart enough to realize civil3d will do way more on the drafting side easier but I am ignorant enough in both on drafting side that it doesnƒ??t make me any faster yet lol. But I would love to master both for situations just like I am in now. ?ÿI tell my LS you tell me what the requirements are when it needs to be done and I will get all the field work and drafting done. I donƒ??t need him doing production. I need him to check ask me what and why. He has a lot more on his plate than I do. For me lining out crews organizing laying out what and how to achieve the correct accuracy is the easy part. Its the darn drafting I am now trying to conquer. ?ÿOr it will conquer me who knows. But I canƒ??t change a tire without a tire tool and jack. Or at least the right socket and a jack. Hopefully I will learn all of this before I kick the bucket.

This may be a pessimistic point of view, but I would not waste my time trying to come up with a backup plan. Things that are out of our control happen sometimes. I don't know the first thing about drafting with TBC, but as you've already found out, it doesn't play well with C3D. That's due to the proprietary nature of the smart objects in C3D, but that's what we have to live with. You'll run in to the same problem regardless of your CAD platform.

The main reason I think it's a waste of time is that the best answer is that it depends on where you are in your project. Were you just starting, halfway through, or maybe 90% done? Then there's the capabilities of your IT department. If you decide you're going to start over, are you even going to get where you're already at prior to them getting you all fixed up? Just way too many variables. I don't know why it's taken them three days to figure this out, but they are the ones who need a backup plan in case this happens. Was the entire company experiencing license issues? If not, could they have provided a secondary workstation?

Yeah, sometimes things happen. We had a crew get stuck last week by a train stopped on some railroad tracks. Jobsite is already two hours away one way. How long will it sit there? How far would they have needed to drive to find the end of the train? What can you do?

Is there an object enabler that will work with TBC?

@bobwesterman I have no idea. ?ÿI will find out at some point lol. Back up and running now I think. Have not had a chance to test yet. Working on a proposal first. Always something to do for sure.

@blitzkriegbob we have a project that has a train issue. About the same time every day it stops for a while blocking road. Same as your situation long commute time already. I told the crews you know what time train is stopping just get your self across before that time. Not always that easy though. Lol. Yes sometimes days go that way.
