1000 Years of war

Absolutely amazing GIS and it's a perfect application for GIS (no real measurements were used in the making of this film).

I agree with the current Hungarian GIS.

This is a very lightweight, very simple GIS app. Not much different than multiple sheets of a printed atlas. Not close to showing what GIS is capable of.

Most of you use a GIS app infinitely more powerful and "perfect"...

the Garmin or Tomtom in your vehicle (real measurements were used). Without GIS, your Garmin or Tomtom is a paperweight.

The scary part is that Western Europe that is so civilized today was the scene of so many wars.
Are we just in a lull before another storm?

The last gismaster to get posted here was booed. Although a very simple application, this is a powerful map. Sure, gis can do all kinds of things, both within their realm and too far outside for my comfort.

Doubtful.

Most of those wars were fought over religion or nationalism; WWI was the death knell of religion in Western Europe and WWII put a stake through the heart of european nationalism.

I understand.

If things only changed when people felt comfortable, things would never change.

The irony is that change is inevitable.

Booed....heck, he was damn near tarred and feathered.

I agree 100%; change is coming, and the surveyor should either embrace it, or stand out of its way.

I don't mind the changing world, but people without sufficient education, training or license should not tread into anothers' realm. Any GISmaster who wants to Survey should first try his or her hand as an Electrician.

As far as the War Map, I was captivated. I've seen a few GIS maps and I've never found one to be so mesmerizing.

If people are violating state statute by practicing surveying without a license, then you should make them aware of it.

If they aren't, then your opinion on their level of competence (or incompetence) doesn't matter, unless you can convince potential clients that it does.

I dont believe this would be defined as a GIS anyway but rather an animated thematic map.
