Dear Smart guys,
Is there anyone out there running Apple hardware (iMac) as a platform for Windows7 through a virtual machine such as Parallels?
I have been doing this for years, first with XP and now Win7. I run ACAD2009 and have had very few issues with compatibility or functionality.
Recently, I have been exploring the purchase of Spectra Precision Survey Office, which I am told is a SP version of Trimble Business Center. SPSO requires a hardware dongle lock and I cannot get the computer to recognize the dongle or drivers for the dongle.
I have always had a problem connecting the Ranger data collector to Win7 via Windows Mobile Device Center. The DC has never been recognized, no matter what.
I ask for any guidance available or for any pearls of wisdom regarding this issue,
Your very humble servant,
JA, PLS SoCal
I would install the Demo copy and give it a spin. This link:

will / should get you a copy of the latest version (2.9x).
Drop a note to support@spectraprecision.com and let Phil know you are interested in an evaluation copy. They will get you a 30-day trial serial number and you can run it through the complete paces.
Good Luck!
Mark
Aloha, Jerry: I've been using Parallels with MacOS for years. I used to run Win XP on it. Now I am running Win 8.1.
Connecting any hardware is alway a challenge to get it to work on the PC side. Windows is very touch to begin with and going through Parallels makes it a bit more challenging. One thing I found is that USB devices have better chance to work with this setup. Bluetooth rarely works. Again it is all depend on the hardware and the software and getting the right stuff on the PC side. Mac as usual...easy to setup anything 😀 😀
Getting a demo version to try out is very good idea.
Ps.: What model Ranger you are having problem with? I rarely have any issue with it
When I was using a first generation Ranger with TDS Survey Pro it would not connect to Win7. I ran the XP virtual machine and connected through Active Sync.
Yep. I run macs with Bootcamp or VMware fusion. Bootcamp for laser scan stuff. Fusion for everything else.
I use 12d, 3d reshaper, cyclone, riscan, rhino & pointools, and probably some other stuff and haven't had any dongle problems.
