BTW: with the rare times when I need use Acad I use Linux for my operating system. The Cad alternates are still funkey. I do maintain Windows 7 for those few times.
Funny thing is, while MS Access is not always part of MS Office, Base is always part of Open Office, and yet they don't mention Base as a viable alternative to Access. It is.
Also missing, and relevant to us (even though we hate it), are alternatives to expensive GIS: Q-GIS, PostGIS, GRASS, and other GIS-related software/libraries.
Now a days many industries are using open source software, because there are various benefits of open source software for business growth.
